Libra in brief

Libra works on the principle "trend instead of daily value". The app shows your daily readings in an interactive chart, highlights the trend behind the fluctuations and helps you plan with goals and estimated results. Besides weight it records body fat, muscle mass and other values. Data lives in the Libra Cloud and is synced between your devices, a Withings scale can be connected directly, and you can share your history with friends. The basic version is free with ads, Pro removes the ads.

For a long time Libra was only available on Android. That has changed: according to the App Store, Libra is now available for iPhone too. So the question "Libra for iPhone?" is no longer whether it is possible at all, but which app fits your goal better.

What Lean is law is built for

Libra is a general weight app. Lean is law is aimed at hobby bodybuilders who steer lean bulk and cut. The differences follow from that:

  • Phases instead of just a goal: Bulk, Cut, Maintain and Diet Break, each with a rate in percent of your trend weight per week and a warning when the rate leaves the sensible range.
  • Calories and macros: free to log, by hand or from Apple Health or Health Connect. With Pro you add adaptive TDEE, target calories and macro targets.
  • Weekly check-in: posing photos (front, back, side, lat spread) with weekly average, rate and waist. The photos stay on the device.
  • Choice of trend method: exponential smoothing, moving average over 7 or 14 days, or double exponential smoothing.
  • Ten languages: the complete app in English too.

Honestly: Libra is better here

  • Price: Libra Pro is cheaper than Lean is law Pro.
  • Sync between devices: Libra syncs through its own cloud. Lean is law deliberately has no account; on iPhone there is a backup to your iCloud account for switching devices, but no ongoing sync between several devices or between iPhone and Android.
  • Withings directly: Libra connects a Withings scale directly. Lean is law reads readings through Apple Health or Health Connect, so the scale has to write there first.
  • Social features: Lean is law does not offer sharing your history live with friends, only sharing as an image.

Switching with your history

Lean is law can import CSV files from Libra. Your trend therefore starts with your entire history, whether you are moving from Android to iPhone or staying on the same device.
